They don't push you to buy useless extras
Car servicing is lucrative, but a good mechanic will not push you to buy additional parts and expensive upgrades which you won't use, or get the full value from. Make sure they take the time to listen to your needs, and understand how you use the car. Never feel pushed into buying anything you're unsure of. Car servicing is expensive enough without purchasing parts you don't need!
They can provide reccomendations from happy clients
A mechanic should be able to provide a list of references and testimonials from other customers who have been happy with their car servicing. Be wary of a mechanic who doesn't display any sort of customer satisfaction information in their shop - they might be hiding it for a reason.
They see qualifications as a must
Car servicing takes time to learn and master, and any mechanic worth their money will be keen to demonstrate their level of qualification. Check with your local vehicle licencing authority for specific state or territory qualifications which can act as a mark of quality.
