Commonly Forgotten Preparation Areas Before Roadworthy Inspections

Roadworthy inspections are essential for maintaining sanity on Australian roads. Otherwise, drivers would be driving cars with all manner of problems without much care. Notably, only licensed vehicle testers should conduct roadworthy inspections. Once you have scheduled a roadworthy inspection session with a licensed tester, you must prepare your vehicle accordingly. Some motorists believe such preparation involves checking and changing the tyres, windscreen, braking system and wipers. Besides such components, most motorists forget specific areas when preparing for roadworthy inspections.

Headlights Brightness

A roadworthy inspection session is not complete without a headlight assessment. However, most drivers believe that inspections only determine the functionality of headlights. Although examining headlights is the primary objective, a professional tester goes beyond confirming whether lights are working. Vehicle testers also spend some time gauging headlight brightness. In most cases, drivers realise their headlights are dull because the plastic develops a thin yellowish film that reduces brightness. Before an inspection, give your headlights a good scrub with mild sandpaper to eliminate the yellow film. It helps restore headlights' condition and ensures maximum brightness.

Spare Wheel

Out of sight, out of mind is the standard approach drivers take to spare tyres. Most people forget that they even have a spare tyre until they need to replace a punctured wheel. Spare tyres need adequate care for emergency purposes and roadworthy inspections. It does not mean that vehicle testers spend a lot of time inspecting the condition of a spare wheel. In fact, roadworthy inspections only target parts that affect the safety of a vehicle, a driver and other pedestrians. Thus, you need to ensure that a spare wheel is mounted on your car correctly and safely. It should not be hanging loosely behind your car or rolling freely in your trunk.

Washers

The wipers on your vehicle might be in optimal condition, but are the washers? Washers are the tiny bumps on car bonnet that squirt water onto the windscreen. They help a driver clear dirt and debris while driving. Unfortunately, some drivers do not know that washers are an integral part of roadworthy inspections and do not bother to check if they are working. It is until a vehicle technician activates the washers and nothing happens that a motorist realises their importance in car safety. Therefore, ensure that both washers, front and rear, are working correctly before presenting your vehicle for a roadworthy inspection.
